Farmers Markets Just RULE!
I love rainy days during spring; it is about the only time I can stay outdoors for more than five minutes. I especially love rainy spring Saturdays, because it means I get to wander around my local farmers market and support both my herb habit and independent businesses. This particular time, I wound up with a plant tray filled with exotic herb varieties (did you know there is a variety of rosemary called “barbecue rosemary”? It’s true. And now it’s in my yard!), a tomato plant (black plum), and a purple coleus. The plants were all picked out from three different vendors. I also grabbed a marvelous apple-toffee pie (courtesy of Simply Southern), some awesomely yummy goat cheese from Goats R Us, fresh tomatoes, and a gorgeous pair of earrings by Wired For Sight. The leftover money from what I had budgeted for the day I dropped into the Avalon jar (a battered women/childen’s charity) on the way out.
I definitely did my part to support local businesses (as per the 3/50 Project), and I’ll feel good every time I look out the window and see my barbecue rosemary, lavender, blue basil, and black plum tomato plants.
… Then the sun came out and I had to retreat back inside … but at least I got everything in the ground first this time, and I’ll have some yummy stuff to offer the friends who are coming over to lunch tomorrow. Well worth a few sneezes, and more than worth the money spent.
